This Sunday A Trip to Philadelphia
The second annual pilgrimage/trip of the senior citizen’s group of St. Sarkis Church took place on Tuesday, October 25, 2011. Headed by the Vicar General, His Grace Bishop Anoushavan Tanielian, 43 participants traveled to Philadelphia to visit the National Shrine of Saint John Neumann. The shrine is located in the lower church of St. Peter the Apostle Church, which was built in 1843. St. John Neumann was the fourth Bishop of Philadelphia, and the first American male to be canonized. He was canonized by Pope Paul VI in 1977. The Second Stop was St. Gregory the Illuminator Church in Philadelphia, where Archpriest Fr. Nerses Manoogian welcomed us. A delicious meal, compliments of Mrs. Asdghig Kazanjian was served and a fellowship hour with Armenian songs, poetry and humor followed the lunch. As a token of gratitude and appreciation, the pastor of St. Sarkis Church presented the new volume of Hawk Khatcherian’s ‘Yerkir 2’ to Mrs.Kazanjian. The trip was concluded with a prayer service at St. Gregory the Illuminator Church. We thank Mrs. Sitta Orangian and Mrs. Zepiur Ardzivian for organizing this trip, we also thank the participants and look forward for the next outing.

December 11, 2011 - Following Church Services. Details will follow. St Sarkis Church Calendar - 2012 As you know, St. Sarkis Church sends its parishioners a calendar at the beginning of each year. The calendar which is being prepared for 2012 will be dedicated to the Armenian Catholicosate of Cilicia. Its pages will be filled with photos and information about the headqurters of the Cilician Catholicosate. This calendar will be printed in full color and will be distributed to all parishioners free of charge. Since there are only twelve pages that can be sponsored (one page for each month), there is very limited space offered for this purpose. In keeping with current economic conditions, each of the twelve months will be sponsored for the modest amount of $750.00. This means that pages can be sponsored in several ways allowing the entire parish to take part in this fundraising project. Please check your level of sponsorship and contact the church office as soosn as possible. Benefactor $750 one sponsor per page For additional information, please contact The Church Office 718 224-2275, Dr. Aram Cazazian 718 423-7009 and Dr. Louiza Kubikian 516 248-2955 |

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST For nothing is hidden that will not be disclosed, nor is anything secret secret that will not become known and come to light. Then pay attention to how you listen, for to those who have, more will be given, and from those who do not have, even what they seem to have will be taken away." Then his mother and his brothers came to him, but they could not reach him because of the crowd. And he was told, "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, wanting to see you." But he said to them, "My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it." |

THE EPISTLE OF ST. PAUL TO THE Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints in Ephesus, the faithful in Christ Jesus: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will- to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment-to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ. In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession-to the praise of his glory.

ST. JOHN CHRYSOSTOM (From CrossRoads E Newsletter)
This Saturday, October 29, the Armenian Church commemorates and remembers St. John Chrysostom (Hovhan Voskeperan), a notable Christian bishop and preacher in Syria and Constantinople. He is famous for his eloquence—Chrysostom means “golden mouth.” The Orthodox Church honors him as a saint and one of the “three holy hierarchs” (along with Basil the Great and Gregory the Theologian). He is also recognized and honored by the Catholic Church and the Church of England.
John converted to Christianity in 368 when he was barely 21 years old. He renounced a large inheritance and promising legal career and went to live in a mountain cave where he studied the Bible. He was later ordained a priest and soon his sermons were attracting huge audiences. He challenged wealthy Christians, whose generosity was confined to donating precious objects for display in churches. “The gift of a chalice may be extravagant in its generosity,” he said, “but a gift to the poor is an expression of love.”
His outspoken criticism was not appreciated by the hierarchy and he was sent into exile at various times. He had a profound influence on the doctrines and theology of the Armenian Church because he spent the final years of his exile in Armenia. Some of his important works have survived only in Armenian manuscripts.
Muse of the deep and ineffable Divine Mysteries.
Wise Prefect and Great Doctor of the world, Like the rock of the Church, you were faithful to the key to heaven. From the beloved disciple, you received the gospel. From the Holy Virgin Birthgiver you received your symbol of authority. O Patriarch John, by the grace of the Holy Spirit you received wisdom. (An Armenian Church ode dedicated to St. John Chrysostom) |
