9/11 Remembered
Last Sunday, September 11, 2011, special prayers were offered for the souls of the victims of the terrorist attacks of 9/11/2011. The pastor gave a homily on the meaning of the cross. He said “each has a cross to carry in their lives; let us offer our cross, i.e. our sufferings as a sacrifice to God Almighty… 9/11 is an unbearable cross that was put on our shoulders and today we are here to pray for all those who lost their lives, for those who lost their loved ones on that tragic day”. He quoted from the prayers of the Armenian Church “Lighten O Lord, the sweet yoke that you have given us, so that we might be able to live according to you commands. Infuse in us lord Faith, Hope and Love and all deeds of virtue” because it is only through God’s help that we can overcome all the struggles of life. The pastor asked the congregation to offer prayers specifically for the soul of Garo Voskerijian and for the comfort of his family members.
Choir and Deacon’s annual picnic
This Sunday a special picnic is hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Armen and Zepiur Ardzivian, to honor the services of deacons, choir members and alter servers of St. Sarkis Church. Great Armenian food, fun games and surprises will be the highlight of the afternoon. This is the 2nd annual picnic hosted by our choir master and his family. Their initiative is truly appreciated by all.
Saturday School is open
Last Saturday, September 10, 2011 was the first day of Suzzanse and Hovsep Hagopian Saturday School. 41 Students are registered this year and we hope that they will have a great learning experience. As in the past, this year also we will offer class in Western and Eastern Armenian, History, Religion and Armenian songs. We wish our Saturday School a great academic year.
Next Sunday
Due to hurricane Irene St. Sarkis Church annual Picnic has been postponed to next Sunday, September 25, 2011. Join us for a variety of dishes, great music, and fun activities for children.
During St. Sarkis Church Summer Camp, participants wrote prayers and shared them with one another. We will published those prayers on a weekly basis to show that when spiritual seeds are planted in hearts of our children, great result will be produced with the help of God: Here are some samples:

In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen. Please Lord, forgive me for all of my sins and all the bad deeds I have committed today. Please protect my family and I from every evil thing and let my family and I be physically and mentally healthy.
Talar Hovsepian, Age: 11
Thank you Lord for giving me a good day and a peaceful night’s sleep. Let your Angels protect us through night and through day. Thank you for everything you have given me. Amen.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO ST. MARK
(10.1-12)
Jesus then left that place and went into the region of Judea and across the Jordan. Again crowds of people came to him, and as was his custom, he taught them.
Some Pharisees came and tested him by asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?”
“What did Moses command you?” he replied.
They said, “Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away.”
“It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law,” Jesus replied. “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”
When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. He answered, “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery.”

ՅԻՍՈՒՍ ՔՐԻՍՏՈՍԻ ԱՒԵՏԱՐԱՆԸ ԸՍՏ ՄԱՐԿՈՍԻ (10.1-12)
Յիսուս Կափառնաումէն Հրէաստանի կողմերը եկաւ՝ Յորդանան գետին միւս կողմէն անցնելով: Դարձեալ խուռն բազմութիւն մը իր շուրջը հաւաքուեցան, եւ Յիսուս սկսաւ անոնց ուսուցանել իր սովորութեան համաձայն:
Փարիսեցիները զինք փորձելու նպատակով մօտեցան իրեն եւ հարցուցին. «Ոեւէ մէկը իրաւունք ունի՞ իր կինը արձակելու»:
Յիսուս պատասխանեց. «Մովսէս ձեզի ի՞նչ պատուիրեց»:
Անոնք ըսին. «Մովսէս արտօնեց բաժանման թուղթ տալ կնոջ եւ արձակել զայն»:
Յիսուս ըսաւ. «Մովսէս ձեր անհանդուրժող նկարագրին պատճառով այդ օրէնքը սահմանեց ձեզի: Մինչդեռ սկիզբէն, ստեղծագործութեան ժամանակ, Աստուած արու եւ էգ ստեղծեց մարդիկը եւ ըսաւ. "Այս պատճառով այրը պիտի ձգէ իր հայրն ու մայրը եւ իր կնոջ միանայ, եւ երկուքը մէկ մարմին պիտի ըլլան": Հետեւաբար այլեւս երկու չեն, այլ մէկ մարմին: Ուստի ոեւէ մէկը թող չբաժնէ անոնք որ Աստուած միացուց»:
Երբ տուն դարձան, աշակերտները նոյն նիւթին մասին դարձեալ հարցուցին: Յիսուս անոնց պատասխանեց. «Եթէ այրը արձակէ իր կինը եւ ուրիշ մը առնէ՝ շնութիւն ըրած կþըլլայ անոր դէմ: Նոյնպէս ալ, կինը եթէ ձգէ իր ամուսինը եւ ուրիշ մը առնէ՝ շնութիւն ըրած կ'ըլլայ»:

THE EPISTLE OF ST. PAUL TO THE CORINTHIANS (10.18 - 11.10)
For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.
I hope you will put up with a little of my foolishness; but you are already doing that. I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him. But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough. But I do not think I am in the least inferior to those “super-apostles.” I may not be a trained speaker, but I do have knowledge. We have made this perfectly clear to you in every way.
Was it a sin for me to lower myself in order to elevate you by preaching the gospel of God to you free of charge? I robbed other churches by receiving support from them so as to serve you. And when I was with you and needed something, I was not a burden to anyone, for the brothers who came from Macedonia supplied what I needed. I have kept myself from being a burden to you in any way, and will continue to do so. As surely as the truth of Christ is in me, nobody in the regions of Achaia will stop this boasting of mine.

ՊՕՂՈՍ ԱՌԱՔԵԱԼԻ ԵՐԿՐՈՐԴ ՆԱՄԱԿԸ ԿՈՐՆԹԱՑԻՆԵՐՈՒՆ
(10.18 - 11.10)
Իսկական ընտրուածը ան չէ՛ որ ինքզինք կը գովէ, այլ ան՝ որ Տիրոջ կողմէ կը գովուի: Սակայն, յուսամ քիչ մը ներողամիտ կþըլլաք եթէ անմտօրէն ես ալ պարծենամ, ըրածներս յիշեցնելով ձեզի: Իսկ դուք համբերութեամբ լսեցէք:
Ես ձեզի հանդէպ Աստուծոյ նախանձախնդրութեամբ լեցուած՝ կþուզեմ որ միայն Քրիստոսը սիրէք, ինչպէս մաքուր կոյս մը որ իր սէրը կը վերապահէ անոր որ իր ամուսինը պիտի ըլլայ: Բայց կը վախնամ որ ձեր միտքը ապականի եւ հեռանաք Քրիստոսի հանդէպ ամբողջական եւ մաքուր նուիրումէն, ճիշդ ինչպէս Եւան խաբուեցաւ օձին խորամանկ սուտերէն: Կը վախնամ որ նոյնքան դիւրութեամբ ընդունիք ոեւէ մէկը որ մեր քարոզածէն տարբեր փրկիչ մը, ձեր ստացած Հոգիէն տարբեր հոգի մը, կամ ձեր ընդունած Աւետարանէն տարբեր աւետարան մը կը քարոզէ ձեզի:
Չեմ գիտեր թէ ես ձեր այդ նշանաւոր «առաքեալ»ներէն բանով մը ետ կը մնա՞մ: Թէպէտ ճարտար խօսող մը չեմ, բայց խօսածս գիտեմ: Եւ կարծեմ ատիկա ապացուցանեցի ձեզի ամէն ինչով: Արդեօք սխա՞լ ըրի որ Աստուծոյ Աւետարանը ձրիօրէն քարոզեցի ձեզի եւ ինքզինքս խոնարհեցուցի՝ ձեզ բարձրացնելու համար: Ձեւով մը միւս եկեղեցիները կողոպտեցի, ապրուստս անոնցմէ առնելով, որպէսզի ձեզի ծառայեմ ձրիօրէն: Ձեր քով եղած ատենս նոյնիսկ երբ կարիքի մէջ եղայ՝ ձեզմէ ոեւէ մէկուն բեռ չեղայ. Մակեդոնիայէն եկած եղբայրները հոգացին պէտքերս: Եւ ինչպէս անցեալին զգուշացայ, ասկէ վերջ եւս ամէն կերպով պիտի զգուշանամ ձեզի բեռ ըլլալէ: Բայց Քրիստոսի ճշմարտութեամբը, որ իմ ներսիդիս է, կþըսեմ՝ թէ այս բաներով պիտի պարծենամ ամբողջ Աքայիայի մէջ, բոլորին պատմելով:
