St. Sarkis Church annual Picnic will take place this Sunday after church service. Join us for a variety of dishes, great music, and fun activities for children.

Choir and Deacon’s annual picnic
On Sunday, September 18, 2011, the 2nd annual picnic was hosted by our choir master, Mr. and Mrs. Armen & Zepiur Ardzivian and his family, to honor the services of the deacons and choir members of the St. Sarkis Church. There was an abundance of food, conversation and laughter amongst the adults, while the children kept busy playing together. Everyone had a great time and look forward to next year’s picnic.

Mommy and Me
This Saturday, September 24, 2011 the second season of Mommy and Me program will start at Suzanne and Hovsep Hagopian Saturday School for children ages 1-3 years old. Through various activities and games, children and their parents are offered the opportunity to spend quality time together in a social setting that is both fun and educational. Join us every Saturday from 10:00 - 11:00 am.

Feast Of The Holy Cross Of Varak (From Crossroads E-Newsletter)
This Sunday, September 25, is the Feast of the Holy Cross of Varak, a feast that is unique to the Armenian Church. The Hripsimiantz Virgins, after coming to Armenia, lived near Mount Varak. Hripsime always carried a small wooden cross believed to have been made from a piece of the true cross. One day, in order to escape persecution, she sought refuge on the mountain where she hid the cross among the rocks before fleeing to Vagharshapat. According to tradition, in the year 653, a hermit named Todik found Hripsime’s hidden cross. He followed a brilliant light that illuminated the mountain and guided him inside the church to the altar where he found the cross. The light shone for twelve days. In memory of this event, Catholicos Nerses established the Feast of the Holy Cross of Varak. He also wrote the beautiful hymn, “By the Sign of Your All Powerful Holy Cross,” (Nshanav Amenahaght Khatchit).
The Monastry of St. Nishan was built on Mount Varak, which is in the southeastern region of Van. In later years the Monastery became prominent when Khrimian Hayrik established a printing house and a school there hoping to make the monastery an educational center. The massacres and deportations of 1915 destroyed those plans, as well as so much more.

During St. Sarkis Church Summer Camp, participants wrote prayers and shared them with one another. We will published those prayers on a weekly basis to show that when spiritual seeds are planted in hearts of our children, great result will be produced with the help of God: Click here to read all prayers

Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near. So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near at the very gates. Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. But about that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

Ապա Մարդու Որդիին նշանը պիտի երեւի երկնքի մէջ եւ աշխարհի բոլոր ժողովուրդները պիտի ողբան, երբ տեսնեն Մարդու Որդին, որ կուգայ ամպերուն վրայ բազմած՝ զօրութեամբ եւ մեծ փառքով: Երբ մեծաձայն փողը հնչէ, ան իր հրեշտակները պիտի ղրկէ, որպէսզի հաւաքեն իր ընտրեալները աշխարհի չորս կողմերէն, երկնքի մէկ ծայրէն մինչեւ միւսը:
Թզենին Ձեզի թող օրինակ ըլլայ: Երբ տեսնէք որ անոր ճիւղեր կը կակուղնան եւ տերեւ կþարձակեն, գիտէք թէ ամառը մոտ է: Նոյնպէս ալ, երբ բոլոր ըսածներս կատարուին, գիտցէք թէ Մարդու Որդիին գալուստը մօտ է եւ արդէն հասնելու վրայ: Վստահ եղէք, որ այս սերունդը չանցած՝ ասոնք բոլորը պիտի պատահին: Նոյնիսկ եթէ երկինքն ու երկիրը անհետանան, խօսքերս պիտի չանհետանան: Սակայն ոչ ոք գիտէ թէ երբ պիտի գայ այդ օրը կամ ժամը. ո՛չ երկնքի հրեշտակները, ո՛չ ալ Որդին, բայց միայն Հայրը:
