Thirty eight
years ago, the founding fathers of Saint Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church
began a sacred journey in the service of the Lord, their spi-ritual mission
guided by the creative vision of the believers. St. Sarkis Armenian church
overcame numerous difficulties and major transformations metamorphosing from
a simple parish house in Bayside to a magnificent edifice in Douglas-ton.
Today, St. Sarkis Church is colorful collage sparkling brilliantly.

On the
night of Tuesday May 21, 1985, many parishioners of the St. Sarkis Armenian
Apostolic Church in Bayside, watching the 10:00 o'clock news, were horrified
to see their beloved second home engulfed in flames.
The blaze was touched off by a bolt of lightning
during an electrical storm, and spread so quickly that it became a "three
alarm fire" in only 12 minutes.
The fire started in the bell tower and spread to the sanctuary, which became
an inferno.
