First Day of Saturday School by Yvette Fiesel
On Saturday, September 15, 2018, the St. Sarkis Suzan & Hovsep Hagopian Saturday School opened its doors for the 2018/2019 school year.
Ninety-three eager and excited students were gathered in Chaderjian Hall and were pleasantly greeted by Degeen NairyZohrabian our principal and our team of dedicated teachers.
After the morning prayers, the students were led by their teachers to their individual and beautifully decorated classrooms where they began teaching the Armenian language in Western and Eastern dialects as well as religion, history and traditional Armenian songs.
As the students gathered for dismissal the principal took the opportunity to talk to the students about why an education in their Armenian heritage was important as well as going over a few school rules. She made a point by saying "It is our responsibility to understand our heritage and to do our best to continue to preserve our culture and rich history".
By working together with our parents and our group of caring, dedicated and motivated teachers we can achieve great result.
We are looking forward to an exciting and academic year, in a loving and nurturing environment.
If you're interested in registering your child it's never too late! You can register by calling the Church office at: (718) 224-2275, or by email at: stsarkissaturdayschool@gmail.com
