What Truly Changes Us?

What do a Ferrari at a gas station, the Apostle John, and the religious leaders in Jerusalem have in common? In this thoughtful and deeply personal homily, Fr. Nareg Terterian reflects on the difference between simply seeing something and truly being transformed by it. Drawing from 1 John 1:1–10 and John 7:14–23, this sermon explores how some encounters leave us unchanged, while others awaken us to a deeper fellowship with God. St. John writes as an eyewitness: “That which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched…” His encounter with Christ transformed his life forever. But the Gospel also reminds us that not everyone who saw Jesus was changed by Him. This sermon is an invitation to reflect on:

  • The experiences that shape our lives
  • The meaning of true spiritual fellowship
  • The role of humility and repentance
  • The beauty of the faith community
  • God’s presence in both the visible and invisible dimensions of life

As we journey together through grief, joy, struggle, and hope, we are reminded that God’s light continues to guide His people today. Join us for worship each Sunday at St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church and experience the beauty of the Divine Liturgy, the strength of community, and the transforming presence of Christ.
