In this Palm Sunday reflection, Fr. Nareg Terterian uncovers the deeper meaning behind Christ’s entry into Jerusalem. This was not a political demonstration or a protest against Rome. It was the fulfillment of prophecy, the return of God’s presence to His people. Through the words of the prophet Ezekiel, we are reminded that God’s presence once departed from the Temple. On Palm Sunday, that promise is fulfilled as Christ enters Jerusalem from the east, humbly riding on a donkey and restoring what was lost. This is why Palm Sunday is joyful, even as it leads us into the solemn days of Holy Week. Jesus does not simply enter a building. He reveals Himself as the true Temple, the living presence of God among us. And just as He entered Jerusalem then, He comes to us now, every time we gather for the Divine Liturgy. When we sing, “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord,” we are not remembering a past event. We are participating in it. This sermon invites us to reflect on: • The true meaning of Palm Sunday • Christ as the fulfillment of God’s promise • The restoration of God’s presence in our lives • The call to open our spiritual eyes • The importance of walking fully through Holy Week Palm Sunday is only the beginning of the journey. From the Last Supper to the Cross, from the silence of the tomb to the light of the Resurrection, we are invited to walk with Christ every step of the way. Join us for Holy Week at St. Sarkis Church: Tuesday: Vespers Holy Thursday: Divine Liturgy, Washing of the Feet, Vigil Good Friday: Retreat and Burial Service Holy Saturday: Easter Eve (Jrakaluyts) Easter Sunday: The Resurrection of Our Lord Do not skip the journey. Walk with Christ. May God open our eyes to see His presence in the midst of the noise of this world, and may that presence lead us to salvation.
