Focus on the Details: The One Percent That Matters

In this thoughtful and personal sermon, Fr. Nareg reflects on Jesus' parable of the lost sheep (Matthew 18:12–14), revealing how God's way of seeing people is very different from the world's way of measuring value. Beginning with a humorous story about his lifelong struggle with numbers, he explores how Christ transforms the meaning of the "1%"—the one person who has wandered away is never insignificant in the eyes of God. Fr. Nareg explains that Jesus' teaching calls us to pay attention to what is often overlooked: the details, the vulnerable, and those who feel disconnected from faith and community. Just as a shepherd leaves the ninety-nine to search for the one lost sheep, Christians are called to notice, care for, and gently invite others into a life centered on Christ. The sermon also highlights the importance of cultivating a healthy church community; the "ninety-nine", where faith is strengthened through worship, prayer, love, and mutual support. From that place of spiritual health, every believer shares the responsibility of reaching out with compassion, not judgment, becoming shepherds who reflect Christ's love. Rather than focusing on criticism or negativity, this message encourages listeners to embrace mindfulness, value every individual, and actively participate in building a welcoming community where all can discover their identity in Jesus Christ.
